Biography

Welding The Band

Slipknot was formed by Shawn Crahan and good friend Anders Colsefini. One winter, while helping Shawn with some welding jobs, they got into talking and decided to form a band. Shawn called Paul Gray at LA and asked him if he's interested to give it a try. They soon started gathering other band members to come jam with them. Joey Jordison from Paul's former band Anal Blast, Donnie Steele from Body Pit and Josh Brainard from Modifidious. The band soon started to play around the whole town and released a self-titled album entitled Mate Feed Kill Repeat which was produced by Sean McMahon. The album was limited to 1000 copies and went out fast. The band even garnered the local radio stations' Battle Of The Bands title in 1996 not long after the albums release. Donnie Steele left the band and was then replaced by Craig Jones. Craig left the Guitars part later and decided to focus more on Keyboards and Sampling for the band. Mick Thomson, from the band Body Pit was recruited to take the Guitars part instead.

Lightening The Load

The band is almost ready to get signed to an actual record label but before doing so, they decided to restructure the band. Shawn was able to get Corey from the local band, Stone Sour because Corey had visions for the band including "total world domination". A few days after Corey was recruited, they decided to play shows with both Corey and Anders handling vocal duties. With Corey joining Slipknot, Anders knew that he will fall on the back-up vocals and percussions, so he left the band later and formed a newer band called Painface.

Soon, things started to change for the better. The Lil' Bo Peep dresses were replaced by boiler suits in different colors with barcodes and numbers for each member. Corey had set his sights on one goal: "infect everyone that needs to be infected". More members started to join Slipknot after Corey's arrival: Sid Wilson as the bands' DJ and Cuddles (Greg Welts) on Custom Percussions. Cuddles left not long after he joined and was replaced by Brandon, who also worked with Shawn on his old sideproject "One Cup Fat". Brandon also left and was then replaced by Chris Fehn who remained as the band's permanent 3rd drummer.

The Big Break

1997, mega producer Ross Robinson, famous for his previous work on Korn's self-titled and Sepultura's "Roots", was looking for some bands to sign on his new imprint, I Am Records through Roadrunner Records. After getting a lot of offers from other record companies (Epic, Mercury, 550), Slipknot signed with I AM Records eventually and started recording Slipknot on Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, CA October of 1998. After the album was recorded, Josh decided to leave the band for no apparent reason. Everything was in good terms. Josh then passed the torch to Deadfront's James Root to record "Purity" for the album.

The album was released later June 29, 1999. The band started to spread the sicness by booking a spot on Ozzfest 99. The band was unknown back then, but they made their presence felt by showing up clad in masks, boiler suits and put up a kick-ass show.

The band is widely known for the masks, numbers and bar codes they use to refer to each other. The band denied accusations of the masks as gimmicks. For them, it is the best way to portray their music and not by wearing branded clothing and where they came from. The album soon reached Gold status after a few months and Platinum 2 months later. Slipknot gained the reputation of the only band to ever go Platinum in such a short span with few MTV and radio support. The band is currently touring Europe and US and are in the process of recording their next album.

Band Members

Current Line-Up

DJ Sid "0" Wilson is Slipknot's turntablist and is responsible for the scratching sounds heard on both the s/t album and Iowa. He is rarely used nowadays and spends his time duking it out with fellow member Shawn on stage shows.

Joey "1" Jordison is the drummer for Slipknot and is part of the old line-up. He is responsible for the blast beats and double bass drum patterns evident on some of Slipknot's popular cuts such as "People=Shit" and "Metabolic".

Paul "2" Gray is the bass player of the band and is part of the original Slipknot line-up. Also, unlike the rest which resides at Des Moines, Iowa...he lives at Los Angeles.

Chris "3" Fehn is the second custom percussionist for the band, replacing Brandon. Just like Shawn and Sid, he is rarely used and jumps around most of the time on live shows.
James "4" Root is the rhythm guitarist of Slipknot, and replaced Josh Brainard during the final stages of the s/t albums recording

Craig "5" Jones is the sampler/synth player of the band and provides the band with sampled sound clips from obscure as well as popular, horror flicks.

Shawn "6" Crahan is one of the founding members of Slipknot and currently serves as one of the two custom percussionists for the band. He is touted as the man behind the whole concept of Slipknot and always gets into trouble, especially with concert security.

Mick "7" Thomson is the lead guitar player and the resident serial killer fanatic. He was recruited by the band through local Des Moines act -- Modifidious, and runs his own guitar school called "Ye Olde Guitar Shop". Also a BC Rich endorsee.

Corey "8" Taylor was recruited from local Des Moines group -- Stone Sour, a runner-up on the Battle of the Bands contest right behind Slipknot. He also works on a porn shop prior to joining Slipknot as the vocalist, replacing Anders.

EX MEMBERS!

Greg "Cuddles" Welts is the original custom percussionist along with Shawn. He didn't stay that long and left to work on his tattoo parlor at South Dakota called "The Ultimate Prick".

Brandon is the replacement for custom percussionist, Greg Welts. He didn't stay long and was later on replaced by Chris.

Josh Brainard was part of Slipknot from the beginning as the guitarist and planned to stick with the band until the recording stages of the s/t album. He left the band right before "Purity" was finished. He now has his own band called "Deadfront".

Anders Colsefini is one of the founding members of the original Slipknot line-up along with Shawn. A huge fan of the White-Wolf RPG, Werewolf: The Apocalypse -- Anders incorporates elements taken from the game in writing song lyrics. He left Slipknot after playing a few shows with Corey (as the 2nd vocalist) and formed Painface in 1998, which disbanded earlier this year. He now has a new band called "On A Pale Horse" and has yet to release a full album.

No word has been given as to when the album will find a release date.

Sub-site currently under construction.

One Cup Fat

Shawn Crahan's sideproject along with his drum tech Sa-Tone and ex-Slipknot percussionist Brandon (aka. Grouch). The band plans on releasing an album but a release date has not been set as of this time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I. The Band

A. What is Slipknot?
- Slipknot is a 9-piece Alternative/Hard Rock band from Des Moines, Iowa.

B. Who are they?
- Corey "8" Taylor (Vocals)
- Mick "7" Thomson (Guitars)
- Shawn "6" Crahan (Custom Percussions)
- Craig "5" Jones (Sampling)
- James "4" Root (Guitars)
- Chris "3" Fehn (Custom Percussions)
- Paul "2" Gray (Bass)
- Joey "1" Jordison (Drums)
- Sid "0" Wilson (Turntables)

C. Who is Anders Colsefini?
- He's the vocalist for the original Slipknot. He helps Shawn do some welding jobs in Des Moines and also the lead singer for Painface.

D. Who is Josh?
- The original guitarist for Slipknot. He was replaced by James after he left for no apparent reason. Josh played on all songs that made it to the self-titled album except for Purity. The rumors about Josh leaving because of his family....are all false.

E. Who is Cuddles
- Cuddles' real name is Greg Welts and he's the original custom percussionist for Slipknot. He left not long after he joined and was replaced by Chris Fehn.

F. What does Slipknot mean?
- Corey says "When I think of Slipknot, I think of somebody tied to a stake, and there's all this evil swarming around them. The Slipknot is what's holding them to that situation. It's kind of like our music. It holds you down and you can't escape.."

Joey says "There used to be a song called "Slipknot" from our first album, Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat, and that is the song that we always opened with. It was just simple and sounded cool and it was pretty easier to remember. Like there is no actual meaning to the name and we don't even consider what an actual "Slipknot" is.

G. What are the numbers for?
- The numbers are significant and vitally important to each member. When choosing them, "Everybody fell into a number," says Shawn. "There was not one person in the band arguing over a number. It was really weird."

Corey says "I think, originally, we were just going to wear jumpsuits and have the barcodes on the back. We figured we might as well take that further and number ourselves. If we were going to be wearing the barcode anyway, we were basically saying, 'Hey, how ya doing? We're a product.' But it was more than that. It's a symbol of how far people take shit in the world today, as far as commercially."

H. Does the band remove the masks?
- Joey says "When we play live and put out albums I see no reason why we should take them off, it's the way the band was built. I don't think the fans want to see us any other way, I think we'd be robbing the fans then."

I. What are the masks for?
- Mick says "Shawn, the clown, had his mask for years. Shawn put it on one day while the band was just fucking around and it was fun. Shawn put on the mask, next thing you know... all the band members started bringing in their own masks. Masks change you, allow you to be someone other than yourself. Took a chance, went fucking nuts and it worked. Wasn't a big contrived thing."

Joey says "We never put on the shit we wear to try and get people into us. We did it because, after being degraded constantly for trying to play music or do something in Des Moines, it just came to be like we were an anonymous entity. No one gave a fuck, no one cared, so we were never about our names or our faces; we're just about music. So we just put it on and it started gettin' people, and it just started to turn into this big thing. The music's the most important, though. The coveralls and masks happened, and for some reason it worked, therefore we had to kind of continue with it. We got stuck with it."

Shawn says "It's not like we're going out and trying to do this crazy-ass Kiss thing where I don't want anybody knowing who the fuck I am. But y'know I'm married and I got three kids. I'm not here to ego trip. I'm not here to get fucked up. I'm here to play music. I'm here to throw down as hard as I can. And if the fans see me out there and they recognize me, man I'll sign autographs all day long. It's for them. But it's not about what my hair looks like or what I look like or whatever. And once you come to terms with who we are as a band, like the mask I wear, the clown, once you come to terms with him, and you're all good with the clown, then you focus on the music – and that's our whole trip, is the music, that's what it's all about."

J. Are any of the band members married?
- Shawn has been married for six years now and has three kids. Craig is also married. The rest of Slipknot are single.

K. How old are Slipknot's band members?
- Joey - 26; Paul - 29; Mick - 27; Corey - 26; Chris - 28; James - 29; Craig - 28; Shawn - 32; Sid - 24.

L. When are Slipknot's Birthdays?
Chris Fehn - February 24; Joey Jordison - April 26; Shawn Crahan - September 24; Paul Gray - April 8; Corey Taylor - December 8; Jim - October 2; Mick - November 3.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

II. Slip Net

A. Are there any other Slipknot fansites out there besides 'Slipknot News'?
- Besides this one, the only two websites that are worth visiting once in a while and has original content are The Official Mate Feed Kill Repeat site by my fellow Slipknot Board moderator, MFKR1. Also worth looking out for is This Is Slipknot, a French Slipknot site that is Flash and PhP based.

B. What is the bands official website?
- The bands official website is at Slipknot1.com; They also have a Flash site at Slipknot2.com which was taken down late March. The band also purchased the rights to the Slipknot.com domain name earlier this year and should be working anytime soon.

C. What is Slipknot Board.com?
- A discussion forum I made last August 2000 to make up for the absence of the mailbag section I originally planned on doing. What's good about it is that we have 'faceofpain' (aka. Anders Colsefini) moderating the board and he can answer almost any kind of question you have regarding Slipknot. You can access the board through here, if it happens to have that rare 'null point error', click here instead.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

III. Discography

A. Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat
- MFKR is a limited edition self released album (2000 copies only) handed out as demos to people that attend Slipknot concerts in 1997.

B. Slipknot
- Slipknot's major label debut album released thru Roadrunner Records imprint "I Am Records" on June 29, 1999. The album contained the ff. tracks: 742617000027, (sic), Eyeless, Wait And Bleed, Surfacing, Spit It Out, Tattered and Torn, Frail Limb Nursery, Purity, Liberate, Prosthetics, No Life, Diluted, Only One, Scissors and Eeyore.

C. Slipknot (2nd Release)
- The tracks Purity and Frail Limb Nursery were based on a fictional essay from an internet website. In order to avoid any lawsuit from the author, Slipknot's lawyers advised them to take off the songs and re-release the album along with a new track entitled Me Inside.

D. Welcome To Our Neighborhood (Video)
- A 20 minute home video that features live performances, interviews and the banned music video for "Spit It Out". The video was rushed by Roadrunner, apparently taking advantage of Slipknot's popularity at that time.

E. Scream 3 (OST)
- The Terry Date remix of "Wait And Bleed" is included in this album.

F. Maximum Slipknot
- It's a Slipknot biography CD bundled with some magazine (if someone can provide me with the name, e-mail me) the CD also has the Terry Date remix of Wait And Bleed and the music video for Spit It Out with it.

G. Tattoo The Earth: The First Crusade
- Live compilation album featuring performances from some of the bands that played at the 2000 Tattoo The Earth tour. The tracks Liberate and Surfacing are included on the soundtrack.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IV. Other Bands

A. Korn
- Slipknot got in a little heat with some of Korn's band members after burning an issue of Teen Magazine with David Silveria's Kelvin Klein ad on it.

B. Mudvayne
- Shawn is good friends with the band and also serves as the executive producer for their debut album "LD 50".

C. Hatebreed
- Also a close friend of the band. Hatebreed joined the "Tattoo The Earth" tour shortly after hearing that Slipknot will be performing.

D. Soulfly
- Corey sings with Max Cavalera on Primitive's "Jumpdafuckup".

E. Mushroomhead
- Mushroomhead is an Underground Metal band from Cleveland which also wears masks and cover-alls. Apparently they got a record deal VOLUNTARILY rejected from Roadrunner a few years back before Slipknot was signed. Mushroomhead then claims that Slipknot stole the whole 'mask and cover-alls' idea.....Slipknot however denies of knowing about Mushroomhead or even knowing that they exist.

F. Stone Sour
- Corey is the vocalist for Stone Sour before he left and joined Slipknot. Stone Sour plays music that kind of mirrors "Stabbing Westward".

G. Modifidious
- Josh, Joey and Craig are band members in this group prior to forming Slipknot.

H. Body Pit
- Mick and Donnie Steele are both Guitar players for this band.

I. Painface
- Anders formed Painface shortly after leaving Slipknot.

J. Snot
- Corey sings on the track "Requiem" from the Snot tribute album.

K. Mr. Bungle
- Sideproject of Faith No More vocalist, Mike Patton. Mr. Bungle originally introduced the idea of masks in music.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

V. People

A. Ross Robinson
- The producer for Slipknot's self-titled debut album. He's well-knowned for producing Korn and Limp Bizkit's previous albums, although he admits that he made a mistake and wants to destroy the essence of "ADIDAS" rock.

B. Vince Bonham
- Representative for Epic that contacted Slipknot if they're interested on signing with them. He took down the deal after hearing them play live.

C. Fred Durst
- Once quoted calling Slipknot's fans as a bunch of "fat and ugly kids". Fred dismissed it a week later as being a rumor and blamed it all on Kerrang for making up lies to destroy his reputation.

D. Marlon Brando
- Actor famous for playing roles in movies such as the Tragedy of Julius Caesar, The Godfather, and The Island Of Dr. Moreau.

E. Sean McMahon
- The ex-producer for Slipknot. He worked with them during the Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat days.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VI. Imageries

A. Inside Tray Cover
- That's the bands roadie, Tom. He's covered in duct tape and cellophane.

B. Album Cover
- The cover was taken from the garage of Shawn's parents.

C. People = Shit
- Joey says "I guess it just comes into the over compulsive personalities everyone has, explains Joey. When someone tries to test us we will go above and beyond to make sure you leave with some sort of distaste in your mouth. As sick as it may sound, it goes back to where we come from, why People = Shit, why we sing the lyrics we do, we why are so fucking pissed off all the time."

D. 742617000027
- The barcode number you always see behind their jumpsuits, t-shirts and on the first track of the self-titled album is actually the barcode number for Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VII. Music Videos

A. Spit It Out
- Deemed violent by MTV because of the 'baseball bat scene'. The video is patterned after the Jack Nicholson flick "The Shining". Throughout the video we see clips of the band performing live, interchanging with scenes wherein the band imitates some of the movies' characters (Corey playing Jack Nicholson, etc).

B. Wait And Bleed
- The music video was taken from the live "Wait And Bleed" performance on the Welcome To Our Neighborhood home video. The only difference is that they used the Terry Date remix of the song instead of the original.

A new version of the "Wait and Bleed" video has been aired late 2000. It's a "claymation" video similar to Tool's "Prison Sex" in 1993. The video is about a puppet master who gets assaulted by the band. It premiered on the WWF's "Sunday Night Heat" program on MTV, WWF wrestler Mick Foley, who presented the video can also be seen dancing to the tune. A few weeks after the premiere and having regular air dates, the band made an announcement to pull off the video because they believe that it's not the proper interpretation of the band.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VIII. Masks

A. Corey
- Number 8 wears a crash test dummy head with his shaved dreads taped on the top of the mask.

B. Craig
- The nails on his diving helmet measures 6 inches long and is not made of rubber.

C. Shawn
- Shawn has about 4 masks. The first one was the original clown mask he used for almost 15 years. The second one was the rather evil looking clown mask he wore on the "Tattoo The Earth" tour. The third one is quite similar to the second, but the hair on the sides were shaved off and the top portion of the mask has blood dripping all over it. The fourth one is an exact replica of the third one without the blood and the top portion of the head is crowned with nails in a mohawk formation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IX. Songs

A. 742617000027
- Just a sample track taken from a Charles Manson documentary. The title of the song is the barcode number from the bands boiler suits, and the Mate.Feed. Kill. Repeat album.

B. (sic)
- (sic) is a literary term that an author includes after a line of text that indicates that s/he knows it's wrong, but s/he's including it.

C. Eyeless
- You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes.....When the band visited New York for the first time to sign the record deal with Roadrunner, "That all came from a schizophrenic street person in New York. He was running around, screaming it at everyone. Though I think his choice of actor was pretty cool. He was off his shit (the schizo that is)." - Mick

"It's not necessary about Marlon Brando's eyes, it's a pivotal figure of Marlon Brando being the untouched guy that he is and eye's being such a strong word, because that song is about Corey's dad and how he doesn't know him. So we're using a figure that everyone knows to amplify the song and with California being such a big fucking state. Like we just use them as articles or examples of a picture. Like the whole motto is unless you're going to be strong enough or realize what the outcome has been in life, don't try to see something that you're not going to fucking see." - Joey

D. Wait and Bleed
- "It's about this guy thats keeps having repetitive black and white dreams of himself lying in a bath of blood with his wrists slit...and one day he wakes up and he finds this dream a reality but he doesn't want to believe this so he tries to fall back asleep and wakes up normally so he basically "Waits and Bleeds". - Corey

E. Surfacing
- "Basically, we dedicate it to the kids as their new national anthem. It's our way of saying don't worry about everybody else. Just worry about yourself. Don't worry about the people judging and the people coming down on you and all the fake crap. Stick to what you believe in. You'd have to get Corey to get his full meaning since he writes all the lyrics....A lot of the stuff we like to leave it for people to decide anyway." - Paul

F. Spit it Out
- "Spit It Out" was written in retaliation to childish mud-slinging by a handful of individuals who worked at a local radio station in Des Moines, Iowa. These individuals worked hard to keep Slipknot off the air.

The song was broadcast in fragments on Mancow's Morning Madhouse after the station threatened to pull Mancow's show from their station. It was also right after Slipknot were pulled from a slot on a live concert in Chicago hosted by Mancow; thanks to same said individuals at the aforementioned radio station.

G. Purity
- "I still think its real. See the thing whether it's true or not, it's a real story, that we read about, that fucked our whole world up. Can you imagine a girl being buried in a box and having all this lecherous bullshit drip down on her from this guy? and thinking that there is hope, because this kid is taking some bizarre note to this guy he doesn't even know- thinking that you are holding on to the shirt of hope -and you wake up and you're dead you're buried in mud -they find the note about a week later shoved in a library book for gods sakes -it just hurts your head- it's a case of what is good and bad in people- the box alone is reason enough to be like, 'I can't stand to be fucking human'- how can someone fucking do this to somebody? What is inside of us that is so fucking wrong? he had written quotes from Edgar Allen Poe and lots of fucked up things on the box. - Corey

H. Prosthetics
- "The song's based loosely on a 1960's movie called the collector- it is about a guy who kidnaps this girl and basically adds her to his collection and keeps her there -it's a weird kind of psychological thing, and prosthetics takes it a little bit further -where he is put into a deep sick psychosis and he goes through the whole collecting thing, at the end of the song he ends up killing her and having sex with her." - Corey

I. Eeyore
- "Eeyore is just about this one fucking guy from Des Moines, Iowa - he has long blonde fucking hair and he is a prick to people in the fucking pit he's a Thor looking jerkoff. He loves our band but he's a dick to everyone in the pit. He likes to hit fucking chicks. The song is about me losing my mind and just tearing the shit out of him" - Corey

J. Me Inside
- The lyric: "Somos feos apestamos y pero reinamos joto muthafucka" means - "We are ugly, we stinked out but we reigned faggot muthafucka!"

K. Snap
- An unreleased track recorded by the band inside a motel room.

L. Scissors
- After the song there is a hidden track before Eeyore. The band refused to comment on what is happening at the song but rumor has it that they are watching a Japscat video.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

X. Samples

A. 742617000027
- The sample which repeats the words "the whole thing I think is sick..." is from a Charles Manson documentary.

B. (sic)
- Al Pacino screams "here comes the pain" at the start of the song. It's from the movie Carlito's Way.

C. Frail Limb Nursery
- A voice sample taken from Crimescene of Purity Knight talking is played in the whole song.

D. Get Behind Me Satan
- Sample played live before 742617000027 kicks in.

E. Diluted
- The sample "I don't have time for the living" was taken from the movie Cemetery Man.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

XI. Events

A. Tattoo The Earth
- Shawn Crahan, Hatebreed, a Slipknot drum tech, and some band members from One Minute Silence are involved in a scuffle with "Tattoo The Earth" security at Wisconsin. The whole ruckus started after TTE security spotted Shawn (whom they thought was a fan) driving a golf cart around the venue. Security, fearing the safety of the concert goers, pulled Shawn and the rest of the passengers off the golf cart and proceeded to arrest them. Shawn tried to fight back and once Hatebreed (close friends of the band) saw that Shawn was in trouble, joined the fray. Shawn was eventually maced then cuffed by security. Members of Hatebreed and security both filed police reports but no charges have been made.

B. Kerrang! Awards 2000
- The masked Iowa rockers walked away from this years Kerrang! Awards in London with three honors, while leaving a path of destruction in their wake. According to sources on the scene, the fun began when the group's "Wait And Bleed" was named Best Single, and the band celebrated by smashing glasses on its table. Upon hitting the stage, Slipknot DJ Sid slugged percussionist Shawn Crahan after a coin toss, and the band then picked up its award without uttering a word. Next up came the band's acceptance of the Best International Live Act award, which saw the group smash its chairs and the microphone before frontman Corey Taylor simply thanked the group's fans. Finally, Slipknot picked up its third Kerrang! award of the evening, Best Band In The World, and celebrated by flipping off the crowd. Amid the mayhem, the band also found time to set its table on fire.

XII. I See Dead People

A. What's that skull thingie on the Slipknot1 website?
- It's a link that brings you to a hidden section containing a javascript puzzle. Solve the puzzle and a (sic) pic shows up. The pictures changes every week.

B. Where do they get the (sic) pics?
- All pics used in the site are fan submissions, although most of it are obviously taken from popular morbid humor websites such as Stile Project, Rotten and Show No Mercy.

C. Of all pics submitted, what was the goriest pic ever posted?
- Well, judging by the fans reaction, the goriest pic has to be the one with the guy who got half his face blown off with a shotgun. You can find it at Rotten in the 'Motorcycle' section.

XIII. Misc.

A. Why is it when I search for Slipknot songs on Napster, it doesn't sound like Slipknot at all?
- What you got is a demo song by an underground band. There are hundreds of fake Slipknot songs out there on the net right now some of them are the ff: Sucks, Anthem, Static X collaboration, People = Shit, Fear Napalm, etc. the best way to counter scams like this is to preview the clips you're downloading by right clicking on the song name and then select 'preview file'.

B. Where can I buy jumpsuits and other Slipknot merchandise?
- Bluegrape carries every Slipknot merchandise there is, from t-shirts to lunchboxes. I don't recommend buying from any other online store except Bluegrape.

C. What is a maggot?
- Term used by Joey referring to their fans because they feed from the bands' music.

D. Is Corey a drum player?
- The picture of Corey you see on the net playing drums is legitimate. Corey knows how to play drums but decided to become a vocalist after hearing the Nirvana song "Bleach".

E. Who is DJ Starscream?
- That's the nickname Sid "0" Wilson uses on sideprojects. His album was suppose to come out on September 12, 2000 but the record label - 1500 Records (the same label that released "TTE: The First Crusade") was bankrupt and the album was shelved for a while.

Shawn dukes it out with TTE security
Date: September 2000

Shawn Crahan, Hatebreed, a Slipknot drum tech, and some band members from One Minute Silence are involved in a scuffle with "Tattoo The Earth" security at Wisconsin. Shawn Takes Out A Fan
Date: May 2000

Hey. I was at the Montreal show and I have something to say about the news piece you had about Shawn ordering the beating of a fan. The way you posted it, Shawn looks like a fucking asshole, but in fact, the ''fan'' had it coming.

That guy was actually there to make fun of Slipknot. I met him behind the Metropolis (the venue where the show was at), where I was waiting for the band to come out. This guy was saying ''Fuck Slipknot'' and "I'm waiting for that faggot clown so I can talk to the motherfucker'' the whole time.

My friend was beside him for the whole Slipknot set and remembered quite vividly how this guy kept saying ''Everyone, say SlipSnot!'' ''Slipknot sucks!'' and so on. During Scissors, this guy started giving Shawn the finger. Shawn and Sid retorted with fingers and ''throat-slits''. The guy then made a sign with his hands to Shawn, beckoning him to come down and fight. Shawn then came down to the floor level and gave the guy one hell of a punch in the face. Admit it, the guy deserved it. The guy then tried to jump over the gate and that's when the security guy shoved him back into the pit.

So the asshole got a bloody lip, and chickened out once Shawn came out the back door. Shawn looked pissed when we talked to him. He just signed autographs, took a few pictures and left.

Oh, one last thing, why did this guy insult Slipknot in the first place?

Turns out that he's in a band and he thinks that they're better than Slipknot. Yeah, as stupid as that.

Well, I hope this clarified the matter somewhat. In the pit, perspectives can get fucked, so I guess the guy who sent you the previous news piece made an honest mistake. But from my friend's perspective and my perspective, it went down as aforementioned.

Slipknot Banned By A UK Council Member
Date: March 2000

After learning that Slipknot are set to play Wolverhampton Civic Hall on March 1 as part of their seven-date UK headlining tour, local Conservative councilor Joan Stevenson has stated that they are "not welcome at all" branding them "ridiculous, juvenile and stupid".

"I'm sure Jim Morrison and The Doors wouldn't have done this," she bristles.

"I know I'm old and a fuddy-duddy, but I don't think that some of this band's actions are quite the thing we want at our Civic Hall, which is owned by the council. As a rep. of the people of Wolverhampton, I can say that they would not find this band acceptable at all. I'm quite broad minded, but one has to speak as one finds!"

This is the policy which Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison is also keen to follow. "I'm going to shit in a box and send it to Wolverhampton council!" he rages. "We'll see how acceptable they find that! Anyway, I'm sure I can bribe some of these councilors with poker money I've won in our dressing room."

Slipknot have lined up a string of personal appearances at HMV stores during their tour, until the chain decided to pull out. In a letter to Slipknot's record label Roadrunner, an HMV spokesperson says: "Awareness of the band is growing very rapidly and our senior management are now concerned about the security of both the fans and the stores concerned. They feel that the quantity of fans likely to turn up will be so great that we will not be able to guarantee the safety of both the band and our customers." "You know what?" says Joey. "They're right. That rules! HMV would probably have called the cops as soon as we arrived!"

Slipknot Banned From UK In-store Appearances
Date: February 2000

Slipknot have been banned from signing sessions at HMV stores in the UK because the music retail giant fears marauding fans will riot.

HMV has blamed the nine-piece masked metal outfit's huge upsurge in popularity on the decision.

A spokesperson for HMV told nme.com: "We turned them down because their popularity has risen tremendously. Our concern is that so many fans are going to turn up - there would in excess of 1000 people."

"We are concerned about everybody's safety - the safety of our staff and the safety of our customers."

Virgin Megastores have now taken on the risk of staging the instores which will now call at Glasgow Virgin Megastore Buchanan Street at 12 noon (February 28), Manchester Market Street at 12 noon (29), Birmingham Corporation Street at 12 noon (March 1), Portsmouth Commercial Road at 12 noon (3) and London Oxford Street at 1pm (5).

The band's debut UK single, 'Wait & Bleed' will be released on February 28 through Roadrunner to coincide with their forthcoming tour which will call at Nottingham Rock City (February 26), Glasgow Barrowlands (28), Manchester Academy (29), Wolverhampton Civic Hall (March 1), Portsmouth Guildhall (3), Bristol Anson Rooms (4) and London Brixton Academy (5).

Corey sets Teen Magazine On Fire
Date: January 2000

At a live Slipknot show in Washington, January 23, Corey Taylor brought a Teen Magazine featuring an advertisement for Kelvin Clein jeans with Korn drummer, David Silveria. Corey dubbed Korn as corporate sell-outs and set the magazine ablaze. Shawn joined in the ceremony by stomping at the burning mag, as fans cheer him on.

The band recently told the press that:

"Some people may think that we hate Korn and Limp Bizkit, but that's not entirely true, we just hate Korn's 3rd album (Follow The Leader) and Limp Bizkit's 2nd album (Significant Other). Their 1st albums (Korn - Korn; Limp Bizkit - 3 Dollar Bill Yall$) however did greatly influence us. We do however like Korn's album Issues, some of it does sound like the 1st one, but they still could have perfected it. We've never met either of them, but we'd like to."

The Limp Bizkit/Slipknot War
Date: December 1999

The war eventually started after a close friend of the band (rumored to be Ross Robinson), informed the band that he saw a news post on Kerrang! Magazine that someone from Limp Bizkit, called Slipknot fans as "fat and ugly kids". Corey retaliated by warning Fred Durst: "You might have a lot of money and be famous, but the next time you talk shit about Slipknot and it's fans....we will kill you". After that, Slipknot started burning Limp Bizkit paraphernalia one-by-one on every live Slipknot show, especially with Durst on it.

A few months after, a local radio station asked Fred Durst what he thinks about Slipknot and Durst mentioned that he loves Slipknot fans and Kerrang! were liars. Durst proved his point even better when he jumped on a trailer at the shooting of their music video "Break Stuff" and started screaming things that he liked about Rage Against The Machine, Incubus and of course, Slipknot. However, that wasn't enough to convince Corey. He still believes that Durst said it and can't back it up. A month later on Rock Feuds 2, a follow-up to the Ultrasound documentary by MTV, Fred Durst gained the ire of Slipknot once again. In the interview, Durst pointed out that people wouldn't have heard of Slipknot if they weren't trashing other bands. This feud is far from over.
